news, thoughts on life and theology
Lately there has been a lot of talk about the world ending on the 21th of December and for those who love to put a date on when Jesus will return this has of course been of great interest. But can we know if the world is ending on the 21th of December or can we know when Jesus will return? The Bible does say that when we see certain things happening we will know the end is near, but how precise can we be and what should our attitude be towards these things.
I will not attempt to make a Bible lesson out of this, but I would like to share some of my thoughts on the issue. First of all I believe the Bible teaches three clear things about the end of the world.
The problem with all the people who go around predicting specific dates is that after several times of being wrong people stop expecting Jesus to come. After to many warning of the world ending at this or this date, people suddenly become immune, and when the danger really is there they don't wanna listen.
Jesus is coming, and I believe as 1. Thessalonian 5:4 says, that for those who live in the light, this day will be no surprise. But this does not mean that we can know the specific day or hour. Jesus will come again, but until He comes our focus should be preaching the Gospel.
